Sukhbir Singh Badal steps down as SAD president to facilitate the election of a new leader, with party elections set for December 14
16-11-2024Sukhbir Singh Badal, 62, stepped down as the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday, as part of preparations for the upcoming party elections. The resignation was announced by former Punjab Education Minister Daljit S. Cheema through a tweet.
In his message, Cheema stated that Badal had submitted his resignation to the party’s working committee, aiming to facilitate the election of a new president. Badal expressed gratitude to the party leaders and workers for their confidence and support during his tenure.
An emergency meeting of the SAD Working Committee, chaired by Balwinder Singh Bhundar, has been scheduled for Monday at 12 pm at the party headquarters in Chandigarh to discuss the next steps.
The elections for the post of president, office bearers, and the working committee of the Akali Dal are set to take place on December 14.
