A man in Adilabad was apprehended by the police for conveying instant 'triple talaq' to his wife via WhatsApp, violating the banned practice. Abdul Ateeq, the accused, faced legal action after his wife, Jasmine, filed a complaint.

The incident unfolded amid ongoing disputes between the couple, with Jasmine previously seeking maintenance through legal channels. Despite court orders, Ateeq refused compliance, prompting Jasmine to approach the court again.

Following a summon from the court, Ateeq resorted to texting 'talaq' thrice to Jasmine on WhatsApp, leading to his arrest and subsequent remand. This occurrence is regulated by the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act 2019, which prohibits instant divorce methods like 'triple talaq'.

The legislation imposes penalties, including imprisonment for up to three years, for husbands practicing such divorces.

Additionally, it ensures maintenance for dependent children of aggrieved women. The Supreme Court's ruling on August 22, 2017, declared instant triple talaq unconstitutional.
