A SriLankan Airlines flight from Chennai to Colombo was subjected to an extensive security inspection at Bandaranaike International Airport after Indian authorities received a warning email alleging the presence of five Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives onboard, officials confirmed.

The alert came in the form of an email sent to the Chief Security Officer at Chennai Airport at approximately 11:05 a.m., shortly after the flight, UL 122, had already taken off. The message, marked as "non-specific," claimed that five South Indian men aboard the 9:55 a.m. flight were trained LeT members with no identifiable red flags.

Upon receiving the alert, Indian authorities immediately relayed the information to their counterparts in Colombo. When the aircraft landed in Sri Lanka, all passengers were disembarked and the flight underwent a rigorous security check. No suspicious individuals or items were found, and the threat was later confirmed to be a false alarm.

SriLankan Airlines issued a statement confirming that the aircraft had been thoroughly searched in cooperation with Sri Lankan security officials, following a tip-off regarding a suspected individual believed to be onboard. The flight was cleared for operations after the search concluded.

The incident occurred against the backdrop of heightened security following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people, including many tourists, were killed in a brutal assault in the Barisan Valley. The attackers are still at large, prompting a nationwide crackdown and intelligence operations.

In response to the Pahalgam incident, India has taken strong diplomatic and security actions, including the suspension of Pakistani airline access to Indian airspace, the cancellation of visas, the downgrading of diplomatic relations, and the closure of land borders and trade routes.
