Three Die as GPS Leads Car Off Unfinished Bridge in UP’s Bareilly
Three men tragically died after their car fell from an under-construction bridge into the Ramganga River in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, reportedly due to GPS misguidance
25-11-2024In a tragic accident in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district, three men lost their lives after their car plunged from an under-construction bridge into the Ramganga River. The incident occurred late on Saturday as the victims were en route to attend a wedding, relying on Google Maps for navigation.
The victims, identified as Vivek and Amit, along with an unidentified third person, had started their journey from Gurugram. The GPS guided their vehicle onto an incomplete flyover, which ended abruptly. The car fell 50 feet into the shallow river below.
The next morning, locals discovered the wrecked car and the lifeless bodies. They alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and transported the victims for post-mortem examinations.
“At around 9:30 am, we were informed about a damaged vehicle found in the Ramganga River,” police officials stated. "The car, believed to be a hired Wagon R, fell from the unfinished bridge. Two victims have been identified as Amit and Vivek, while efforts are ongoing to identify the third individual."
The victims’ families expressed anger over the lack of safety measures at the bridge. They questioned why no barricades or warnings had been placed to prevent vehicles from accessing the incomplete structure.
Holding the construction authorities accountable, the families demanded legal action, calling for an FIR to be filed against the responsible department for negligence.
The incident highlights the critical need for proper safety measures at construction sites to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
