Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau revealed that he had a brief conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a summit in Laos, addressing the ongoing tension between the two nations. The strained relations followed Trudeau's accusation of Indian involvement in the assassination of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar last year.

Speaking at a press conference in Laos, Trudeau said, "I emphasised that there is work we need to do." While he did not provide specific details about the discussion, Trudeau reiterated his commitment to safeguarding Canadians and upholding the rule of law, stating, "The safety of Canadians and upholding the rule of law are fundamental responsibilities of any Canadian government, and that's where my focus remains."
