Donald Trump on Thursday declared that Israel and Lebanon have consented to a 10-day cessation of hostilities, describing the move as a significant diplomatic step after weeks of heightened cross-border tensions.

According to Trump, the breakthrough came after what he termed “very productive discussions” with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The US president also disclosed that officials from Israel and Lebanon convened in Washington earlier this week — marking the first known direct meeting between representatives of the two nations in more than three decades.
