Trump Claims Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei Dead or Gravely Ill
US President asserts Iran’s leadership and armed forces have been crippled, declaring the country effectively without command
28-03-2026US President Donald Trump on Friday made explosive claims about Iran’s top leadership, alleging that the country’s newly elevated Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is either deceased or critically unwell following American military action.
Speaking publicly, Trump contended that recent US operations had devastated Iran’s chain of command and defence infrastructure. He asserted that Tehran’s senior leadership figures had been eliminated and suggested there had been no recent public appearance or communication from Mojtaba Khamenei.
The US President went on to describe Iran as strategically paralysed, claiming its naval assets, air fleet, and core defence systems had been neutralised. According to Trump, the country’s maritime capabilities — including vessels allegedly equipped for mine deployment — had been wiped out. He further alleged that Iran’s air power and anti-aircraft systems were no longer operational, and that its military communications network had been dismantled.
Trump maintained that the cumulative impact of these actions had left Iran without effective governance or military coordination. He suggested that no clear authority figure had emerged to take control, portraying the situation as one in which leadership had collapsed.
There has been no immediate independent confirmation of the claims regarding Mojtaba Khamenei’s condition or the extent of the reported military damage.
