In a major development in the Twisha Sharma death case, her husband Samarth Singh surrendered before a court in Jabalpur on Friday after remaining untraceable for nearly 10 days. Police later detained him in connection with the high-profile case that has sparked nationwide attention and growing calls for a CBI investigation.

The courtroom witnessed chaotic scenes as journalists surrounded Samarth upon his arrival. Reporters repeatedly questioned him while cameras followed him through court premises before police finally took him into custody.

Earlier in the day, Samarth’s legal team had indicated that he intended to surrender voluntarily. However, confusion prevailed for several hours as he reportedly moved between different courtrooms while law enforcement officials waited outside.

The High Court permitted Samarth Singh to surrender either before the trial court or at Katara Hills Police Station in Bhopal. The matter has now been listed for further hearing on Monday.

During proceedings, his lawyer informed the court that the anticipatory bail plea would be withdrawn. The counsel also stated that Samarth wanted to participate in the last rites of his wife.

Meanwhile, lawyers representing Twisha Sharma’s family argued that the accused should surrender directly before the investigating agency or the designated trial court in Bhopal, where the case is officially being handled.

Twisha Sharma, originally from Noida, was discovered dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and mental abuse, alleging that these circumstances drove her to death. On the other hand, the Singh family has claimed that Twisha struggled with substance-related issues.

Although the initial post-mortem examination concluded that the death was a suicide, Twisha’s relatives have continued to allege suspicious circumstances and foul play.

In another significant development, the court approved a request for a second autopsy after Twisha’s father approached the bench seeking an urgent re-examination. His counsel stressed that the matter required immediate attention due to concerns surrounding preservation of the body.

Lawyers representing the accused family opposed the second post-mortem request, arguing that the original examination had already been conducted by specialists from AIIMS Bhopal. They questioned the necessity of another medical review and defended the credibility of the doctors involved.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared during the proceedings, supported the integrity of the medical team but stated that a second opinion could still be considered if the family believed certain aspects had been overlooked.

The court also raised concerns regarding preservation of the body, observing that long-term storage required ultra-low temperatures not currently available in Bhopal’s facilities.

Separately, the Madhya Pradesh government has officially recommended a CBI investigation into the case. A notification issued by the state Home Department confirmed consent for transferring the probe to the central agency.

Officials stated that the proposed CBI inquiry would cover the primary offence along with any possible conspiracy, abetment, or related criminal elements connected to the case.
