Ukraine carried out a widespread drone attack on Russia on Wednesday, with Russian air defense units intercepting multiple drones, including three downed about 38 kilometers south of the Kremlin, and 15 others over the Bryansk region near the border, according to Russian officials.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed via the Telegram messaging app that the three drones aimed at the capital were shot down over Podolsk, located in the Moscow region. Sobyanin reported that there was no damage or casualties at the sites where the drone debris fell.
Similarly, Bryansk region Governor Alexander Bogomaz stated that no casualties or damage were reported following the drone attack in his region, situated in southwestern Russia.
In a separate incident, Russia's RIA state news agency reported that two additional drones were destroyed over the Tula region, which borders the Moscow region to the north.
Additionally, Vasily Golubev, the governor of Russia's Rostov region, reported that air defense forces successfully intercepted a missile launched by Ukraine over his region, with no injuries resulting from the attack.
The total number of drones and missiles launched by Ukraine remains unclear. Reuters was unable to independently verify the reports, and there was no immediate comment from Ukraine.
In recent months, Kyiv has increased its airstrikes on Russian territory, targeting infrastructure vital to Moscow's war efforts. Ukraine has justified these attacks as retaliation for Russia's continued strikes on Ukrainian soil.
