Veteran actor Satish Shah, known for his iconic roles in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, passed away in Mumbai at 74 after battling kidney complications

Veteran actor Satish Shah, one of India’s most loved faces in film and television comedy, passed away on October 25 at around 2:30 pm at Mumbai’s Hinduja Hospital. He was 74.

According to his manager, the actor had been undergoing treatment for kidney-related ailments and had recently undergone a transplant. His body remains at the hospital, and the funeral will be held on Sunday, as confirmed to India Today.

With a career spanning more than four decades, Satish Shah carved a unique space for himself in Indian entertainment through his effortless comic timing and expressive performances.

He rose to national fame with the 1983 cult classic “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro,” in which his performance—playing multiple roles with sharp wit—became one of the film’s highlights.

Over the years, he featured in several beloved Bollywood films, including “Hum Saath-Saath Hain,” “Main Hoon Na,” “Kal Ho Naa Ho,” “Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa,” “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,” and “Om Shanti Om.” His ability to seamlessly move between humor, warmth, and drama made him one of the industry’s most versatile character actors.

On television, Satish Shah achieved legendary status with his portrayal of Indravadan Sarabhai in the hit sitcom “Sarabhai vs Sarabhai,” a role that remains one of the most iconic in Indian comedy. He was also a part of the classic 1980s show “Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi,” which broke new ground in Indian television entertainment and cemented his place as a comic genius.

His passing marks the end of an era for Indian cinema and television, leaving behind an enduring legacy of laughter, warmth, and unforgettable performances.
