Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt have been detained by Rajasthan Police in a high-profile investigation tied to an alleged financial fraud of ₹30 crore. The case was initiated by Dr Ajay Murdia, the founder of Udaipur-based Indira Group of Companies.

According to officials, both Vikram and Shwetambari were taken into custody, medically examined, and are expected to be transported to Udaipur once a transit remand is secured. Police had previously issued a second round of notices to six individuals named in the matter, directing them to appear before authorities by December 8.

Case Linked to Proposed Biopic

The controversy stems from a complaint filed at the Bhupalpura police station in which Dr Murdia accuses Bhatt and several others of misleading him into funding a biographical film based on his late wife. He claims he was assured substantial financial returns — reportedly around ₹200 crore — if he invested in the project.
Others named in the report include Mehboob and Dinesh Kataria.

Vikram Bhatt Denies Wrongdoing

Responding to the allegations earlier, Vikram Bhatt told NDTV that the accusations are “completely false.”
He said, “I saw the FIR today. In my opinion, the information given to the police is incorrect. The entire complaint is misleading.”

He suggested that forged or manipulated documents may have been used to support the claims, stating that he is unaware of what exactly was presented but believes “something fabricated” was submitted.

The filmmaker further alleged that Dr Murdia abruptly stopped funding the biopic titled Virat and that several crew members are still awaiting payments. “The film was halted midway. Technicians have been following up for dues of nearly ₹2.5 crore. This seems like an attempt to avoid clearing payments,” he claimed.

Ready to Cooperate

Bhatt added that he is prepared to provide all necessary evidence to investigators. “I have complete documentation to prove my side. I will cooperate fully. Once the facts are checked, the truth will come out,” he said.

Authorities have not yet revealed further details regarding the couple’s arrest or the next steps in the investigation.
