Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of Akruti Hospital near Bhiwandi in Thane district, developed a fever on Tuesday but remains in stable condition, doctors confirmed. Dr. Vivek Trivedi, who heads the medical team supervising Kambli’s care, said the 52-year-old is responding well to treatment for a severe urinary tract infection, for which he was admitted on December 21.
Doctors initially planned to perform an MRI to further assess Kambli’s health after earlier tests revealed clots in his brain. However, the procedure has been postponed due to his fever. Trivedi added that Kambli is likely to be moved out of the ICU within a day or two and could be discharged in about four days.
“Kambli’s condition was critical when he was admitted with a severe urinary infection that led to pus accumulation in his bladder. His blood pressure was fluctuating, and delaying hospitalization could have worsened his condition. Fortunately, the infection has been treated, and his vitals are stable,” Dr. Trivedi explained. The next 24 hours will be critical in deciding when he can leave the ICU.
Financial Assistance and Government Support
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with the Shrikant Shinde Foundation led by his MP son, has extended support to Kambli during his hospitalization. On the Deputy CM’s instructions, Mangesh Chiwte, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), visited the hospital to check on Kambli's health and ensure he receives optimal care.
Shrikant Shinde announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh, which will be provided through the Dr. Shrikant Shinde Foundation. The foundation has also assured Kambli and his family of additional support if needed.
In a statement, Kambli expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support provided by Eknath Shinde and his son. He expressed a desire to meet the Deputy CM in person to thank him for the help during his difficult time. The father-son duo is expected to visit Kambli at the hospital soon, according to an official release.
Kambli’s Health Journey
Kambli’s health scare began with extreme urinary infection and associated complications that necessitated immediate medical intervention. Earlier tests also revealed clots in his brain, prompting further evaluations. Despite these challenges, the cricketer remains optimistic and is showing signs of improvement under the care of his medical team.
The former cricketer’s resilience and the timely support from the government have brought hope for a swift recovery, with the cricketing community and his fans rallying behind him.
