Comedian and actor Vir Das has spoken out about the controversy surrounding the show 'India's Got Latent,' hosted by Samay Raina and featuring guest judges Ranveer Allahbadia, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, and Ashish Chanchlani. The program has come under intense scrutiny following a controversial remark made during one of its episodes.

The issue arose when Ranveer Allahbadia, known as the BeerBiceps Guy, posed an unsettling question to a female contestant during the roast segment. He asked, "Would you rather witness your parents engaging in an intimate act every day for the rest of your life or intervene once to stop it forever?" The question triggered significant backlash, prompting several Members of Parliament to express concern. Reports suggest that a Parliamentary panel on information technology is considering summoning Allahbadia to address the matter.

Vir Das addressed the situation, stating that audiences have every right to critique comedy. "Comedy is always open to discussion," he said. "A true artist listens to feedback, reflects on it, and adapts accordingly. Regardless, the impact of one’s work on their career and audience is immediate—it’s just the nature of the industry."

Shifting focus to the role of mainstream media, Das suggested that traditional media outlets were exploiting the controversy to undermine digital content creators. "We’re seeing a declining mainstream media attempting to take down new-age platforms that attract far greater audiences and deeper conversations at a fraction of their costs," he noted.

He also called for scrutiny of journalism standards. "While people debate what qualifies as good comedy, they should equally question journalistic integrity—the topics that are covered, the questions being asked, and who they are being directed at."

As the debate continues, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken action by summoning Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Apoorva Makhija, Jaspreet Singh, Ashish Chanchlani, and the show’s producers, Tushar Poojari and Saurabh Bothra.

The NCW has strongly condemned the remark, labeling it "inappropriate and offensive" for disregarding principles of dignity and respect. The commission has scheduled a hearing for February 17 and has directed all involved individuals to appear in person at its New Delhi office at 12 p.m. on the designated date.
