28-07-2024BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has expressed strong disapproval of a drag queen-themed parody of "The Last Supper" performed during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. The renowned mural by Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci, depicting Jesus and his apostles, was reimagined in a controversial act featuring 18 performers, including three well-known Drag Race France queens.
The Paris Olympics, which commenced with an elaborate four-hour opening ceremony, faced significant backlash on social media for the drag act. Taking to her official Instagram account, the actor-turned-politician labeled the performance as "hyper-sexualized" and "blasphemous." She criticized the inclusion of an apparent child in the act and the portrayal of a naked man painted blue as Jesus, accusing the event of mocking Christianity and being hijacked by leftist ideologies.
At the Olympics opening, everything was about "being homosexual," the Mandi MP said. She questioned the relevance of sexuality to the Olympics and argued that sports should focus on human excellence rather than sexual identity.
The controversy erupted over a segment entitled "Festivity," where a group, including several drag queens, sat at a table reminiscent of "The Last Supper." The act was set to music by lesbian activist DJ Barbara Butch, who wore a silver headdress resembling a halo. The artistic rendition sparked an uproar on social media, with billionaire Elon Musk among those who criticized the performance as "extremely disrespectful to Christians."
