Yogi Adityanath Flags Alleged Exclusion of Hindu Voters, Asks BJP Workers to Monitor UP Roll Revision

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed BJP workers to closely monitor the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, claiming that large numbers of eligible Hindu voters are missing from the lists. Addressing the party’s state executive committee meeting on Friday, he called for coordination with election officials to ensure that eligible voters are registered.

Adityanath claimed that the names of 1.27 crore Hindus were absent from the electoral rolls, arguing that the alleged omissions had affected the BJP’s position in 28 urban local body constituencies.

Questioning the size of the state’s electorate, he said Uttar Pradesh should have more than 16 crore voters, compared with the approximately 13 crore currently on the rolls. He cited several categories of people whose names, he alleged, had not been included in Assembly constituency voter lists.

According to the chief minister, around 66 lakh people listed in panchayat electoral rolls were missing from the Assembly rolls. He also claimed that 55 lakh beneficiaries of government welfare schemes were absent from the lists, along with approximately 4.5 lakh young people aged between 18 and 19.

Adityanath expressed concern over the limited additions during the previous revision exercise, saying only four lakh voters had been added to the state’s electoral rolls at that time.

BJP leaders asked to coordinate with booth-level officers

The chief minister instructed party workers to work with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and regularly review the revision process to help ensure that eligible voters are included.

MPs, MLAs and other party office-bearers have also been assigned responsibility for monitoring voter registration, with particular emphasis on ensuring that Hindu voters are not left out.

His remarks underline the BJP’s focus on the electoral roll revision process and its potential implications for the party’s political position in Uttar Pradesh.

More than two crore names deleted from UP electoral rolls

The Election Commission of India (ECI) data cited in the report shows that more than 2.04 crore voters were removed from Uttar Pradesh’s electoral rolls following the SIR exercise. The deletions were concentrated largely in urban areas, while women accounted for a higher proportion of those removed.

At the same time, more than 84 lakh new voters were added to the rolls. The final electorate stood at 13,39,84,792, according to the data.

The overall figures reflect substantial changes to the state’s voter database, although the total number of deletions alone does not establish how many eligible voters may have been wrongly excluded.

Yogi has raised the issue before

Adityanath has previously urged BJP workers to pay attention to voter registration and ensure that eligible supporters are included in electoral rolls. His latest remarks renew that appeal as the party seeks to monitor the revision process across the state.

The claims about the number and identity of voters allegedly missing from the lists were made by the chief minister at the party meeting. The figures attributed to him should be distinguished from the overall deletion and addition data released by the Election Commission.
