Zara recently faced public backlash over a children's t-shirt that many found "sexually suggestive." The controversy began after a woman named Laura Wilson, a mother of two from London, shared a video of the shirt sold in the girls' section of Zara's store at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent. The shirt, which was white with black and red text, featured phrases like "The Perfect Snack" on the front and "The Strawberry: A small burst of sweet joy" alongside images of strawberries. The back of the t-shirt had more text, including "Take a bite. A burst of sweet delight, making it the perfect summer snack."

Wilson expressed her discomfort with the wording, highlighting that the term "snack" is often used to describe someone who is sexually attractive. In her video, she questioned whether others found the shirt inappropriate, stating, "I'm so shocked. 'Take a bite,' is it just me? Or is this just not OK?"

After sharing her concerns on TikTok, many users agreed with Wilson, calling the shirt "vile" and "inappropriate" for children. In an interview, Wilson admitted she initially wondered if she was being overly protective, but public reactions confirmed her concerns.

In response to the growing criticism, Zara issued an apology and removed the t-shirt from stores and their website. A spokesperson for the brand said, "There was no intention for the use of the word 'snack' on this T-shirt to imply anything other than the traditional meaning of the word, as evidenced by the image of a strawberry on the garment. However, we now understand that some individuals have interpreted the term differently." The company also expressed regret for any offense caused and confirmed that the t-shirt had been pulled from their collection.
