In an unusual cargo theft that has grabbed international attention, nearly 12 tonnes of KitKat chocolate bars went missing while being transported across Europe. The consignment, estimated at over 4 lakh bars, was reportedly en route from a manufacturing facility in Italy to Poland when the truck carrying it vanished.

The chocolates were not part of the brand’s regular stock but belonged to a special motorsport-themed collection introduced after KitKat partnered with Formula One last year. The limited-run treats were designed in the shape of miniature race cars, making them particularly distinctive.

Reacting to the incident, Nestle issued a light-hearted statement, joking that while the brand encourages consumers to “take a break,” the culprits appeared to have taken the slogan too far by making off with an entire truckload.

However, the company also struck a serious note, highlighting that organised cargo theft has become a growing concern for businesses. It said criminals are employing increasingly sophisticated tactics, and sharing details of the incident could help draw attention to the broader issue.

As reports of the chocolate heist circulated, social media platforms were flooded with memes and humorous reactions, with many users poking fun at the scale and uniqueness of the theft.

Nestlé has cautioned retailers and consumers that the missing stock could surface in unofficial markets across Europe. Each bar reportedly carries a traceable batch number, which may help authorities identify and recover the stolen goods if they reappear in original packaging.

Investigations into the disappearance of the shipment are ongoing.
