A day after an alleged assault on former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused two leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party's youth wing of orchestrating the attack.
During a press conference on Saturday, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh identified the accused as Rohit Sehrawat and Arun Dhall, both affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). According to AAP, the incident occurred during a padyatra (foot march) in Vikaspuri, Delhi, on October 25, where individuals linked to the BJP allegedly targeted Kejriwal, who is protected by a Z-plus security detail.
Singh condemned the BJP, claiming, “In its politics of hatred and violence, the BJP has reached a point where it is willing to eliminate Arvind Kejriwal. This is not the first attempt to undermine AAP and Kejriwal. The BJP has done everything possible to cause him distress.”
In addition, Singh accused the Delhi Police of shielding the assailants involved in the attack. He remarked, "Amit Shah’s police are complicit in this assault. If an attack occurs in the presence of the police, it is their duty to respond. How did this security lapse take place?" When questioned about the lack of a case filed after the attack, Singh raised further concerns.
A Delhi Police official stated that they have yet to receive any formal complaint from AAP regarding the incident. The officer added that the padyatra took place in a narrow lane approximately half a kilometer long. "There was some sloganeering against AAP, but no evidence of any physical altercation or assault has been discovered so far," the official explained.
