AAP to Contest Delhi Assembly Election Without Congress Alliance
The Aam Aadmi Party announced it will contest the upcoming Delhi Assembly election independently, without an alliance with Congress
06-06-2024The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced on Thursday that it will contest the upcoming Delhi Assembly election independently, without forming an alliance. Delhi Minister Gopal Rai clarified that while there was an alliance with Congress for the Lok Sabha elections, this partnership will not extend to the Delhi Assembly polls scheduled for early 2025.
This decision was finalized during a meeting held with AAP Delhi MLAs at the Chief Minister's residence. In this meeting, AAP legislators were instructed to resume development activities in their respective constituencies every Saturday and Sunday, which had been halted due to the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections.
The party has also scheduled a meeting with Delhi Councillors on Saturday, June 8, and with party workers on June 13.
In the recent Lok Sabha elections, AAP contested 22 seats across Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat, and Assam, securing only three seats in Punjab. The party's performance in Punjab was notably disappointing, leading in only 33 out of 117 assembly segments, according to Election Commission data. This comes just two years after AAP's significant victory in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, where it won 92 of the 117 seats.
