Ahead of AI Summit, PM Modi Meets ‘Friend’ Macron, Greets JD Vance at Paris Dinner
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in France to a warm reception, ahead of co-chairing the AI Action Summit with President Emmanuel Macron
11-02-2025Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with a warm embrace by French President Emmanuel Macron at a dinner in Paris, ahead of their joint leadership at the AI Action Summit.
Taking to X, PM Modi expressed his joy at the meeting, saying, "Delighted to meet my friend, President Macron in Paris."
During the dinner, he also met US Vice President JD Vance, who is attending the AI Summit in France.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi arrived in Paris for a two-day visit and was welcomed by French Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu. At the airport, members of the Indian diaspora gathered in large numbers, chanting "Modi, Modi" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai," accompanied by drumbeats. PM Modi acknowledged their warm reception on X, calling it a "memorable welcome" and applauding the Indian community for their achievements and continued support.
The AI Action Summit, which PM Modi will co-chair with Macron, aims to establish a global governance model for artificial intelligence that ensures inclusivity, transparency, and safety for users worldwide. The event will also focus on advancing joint AI research and development.
The summit has attracted prominent global leaders, including US Vice President JD Vance and Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing. It takes place against the backdrop of Chinese startup DeepSeek unveiling a low-cost, highly accurate AI model, presenting competition to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
A diplomatic source indicated that India’s co-chairing of the summit underscores its role as a key player in shaping AI policies, sending a message to China about its influence in the field.
Apart from the summit, PM Modi and President Macron will engage in bilateral discussions in Marseille. They will jointly address the India-France CEO’s Forum, highlighting economic and technological collaboration between the two nations.
PM Modi will also visit the Mazargues War Cemetery in Marseille to pay tribute to Indian soldiers who fought in the First World War. Additionally, both leaders will inaugurate India’s new consulate in Marseille, further strengthening diplomatic ties.
As the visit unfolds, discussions on AI governance, economic partnerships, and global cooperation are set to take center stage in shaping the future of India-France relations.
