Air India has launched a significant upgrade to its fleet by introducing a new three-class configuration on its A320neo aircraft, aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and choice across domestic and short-haul international routes.
This strategic move marks the debut of Premium Economy cabins on Air India's narrowbody planes, catering specifically to the preferences of modern travelers. The newly configured aircraft, named VT-RTW and VT-RTZ, will offer distinct seating options: 8 luxurious seats in Business Class, 24 extra-legroom seats in Premium Economy, and 132 comfortable seats in Economy Class.
Campbell Wilson, CEO & Managing Director of Air India, emphasized the importance of these upgrades in enhancing the overall flying experience. "The introduction of a three-class cabin to Air India’s narrowbody fleet and commencement of interior refits are important steps in the journey of enhancing the flying experience," Wilson stated. He highlighted that this initiative aligns with Air India's broader strategy of becoming a world-class airline, complementing recent upgrades to their widebody fleet.
Passengers in Business Class will enjoy spacious seats with a 40-inch pitch, extensive recline, adjustable armrests, footrests, and advanced tray tables equipped with multiple charging points. Premium Economy passengers will benefit from larger seats featuring superior upholstery, wider pitch, and upgraded meal options served in enhanced crockery, promising a superior travel experience compared to Economy Class.
The retrofitting process will be gradually applied to Air India's existing fleet of full-service narrowbody aircraft over the next year. New aircraft deliveries will also incorporate these upgraded cabin options, ensuring consistency across their operational network.
This initiative is expected to resonate well with travelers seeking heightened comfort and amenities, reinforcing Air India's position as a leader in the global aviation sector committed to delivering superior service and experience to its passengers.
