Numerous international and domestic flights operated by Air India Express faced cancellations recently due to unexpected absences among senior crew members. Sources within the airline hinted at dissatisfaction among the crew regarding certain aspects of their remuneration package, particularly related to performance-linked incentives. This sudden development led to disruptions at various airports, including Kochi, Calicut, and Bangalore.

Efforts to communicate with the protesting cabin crew members have yielded no results thus far. The airline spokesperson acknowledged the situation, expressing regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers. They assured affected travelers of options for refunds or rescheduling and advised passengers to verify the status of their flights before departing for the airport.

Reports suggest that over 200 cabin crew members are believed to have called in sick, exacerbating the flight disruptions. This unrest among the cabin crew has been brewing for some time, especially since the initiation of the merger process with AIX Connect, formerly AirAsia India.

Air India Express, now under the ownership of the Tata Group, had previously received a notice from the Union Labour Ministry over alleged breaches of regulations concerning disputes between management and cabin crew. This notice stemmed from concerns raised by cabin crew members, including issues related to accommodations during layovers. The discontent among cabin crew members had also prompted correspondence with Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia regarding various grievances, such as changes to service contracts.

Despite the ongoing challenges, the airline remains committed to resolving the situation and minimizing disruptions for its passengers.
