Air India kicked off 2025 with a groundbreaking announcement—complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity on select domestic routes. The service is now available on specific aircraft, including the Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and certain Airbus A321neo models, making Air India the first airline in India to offer this feature on domestic flights.

The news has generated excitement among tech-savvy travelers but also sparked concerns on social media. Reactions on X (formerly Twitter) included remarks like, “The few hours of silence without rude passengers talking or listening on speakers is gone,” and “Now we will have 100 people in flight screaming on WhatsApp calls. Congratulations.”

Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer at Air India, shared his perspective: “Connectivity is now an integral part of modern travel. For some, it’s about convenience and real-time sharing, while for others, it enhances productivity and efficiency.”

The service allows passengers to connect multiple Wi-Fi-enabled devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones (both iOS and Android) while cruising above 10,000 feet. Whether it’s staying active on social media, texting loved ones, taking WhatsApp calls, browsing the internet, or attending live masterclasses, Air India passengers can now remain connected in the skies. The feature also promises to ease anxiety for nervous flyers by enabling them to stay in touch with those on the ground.

While many hail this as a luxurious upgrade to the travel experience, others are nostalgic about the perks of being offline during a flight.

While in-flight Wi-Fi promises convenience and productivity, it also changes the dynamics of air travel. Whether this is a step forward or a disruption to cherished habits, only time will tell how passengers adapt to this new connectivity.
