On May 17th, Air India announced a partnership with MedAire, a leading provider of aviation medical support, to ensure emergency healthcare services for passengers and crew on board its flights. This collaboration aims to effectively manage medical crises and reduce medical diversions by providing real-time professional assistance, thus minimizing inconvenience to passengers. In the event of a diversion being advised, MedAire's network will recommend the most suitable airport for a medical emergency landing, with the airport being alerted to handle the situation.

Air India has become the first airline in India to integrate MedAire’s advanced medical assistance across its entire fleet. Through MedAire's app MedLink, passengers and crew will have access to round-the-clock consultation with a team of emergency physicians with aviation expertise during in-flight medical situations. The medical team will assess the situation and recommend appropriate care. This collaboration underscores Air India's commitment to passenger and crew safety, particularly with its expanded nonstop connectivity to long-haul international destinations.

Campbell Wilson, CEO & Managing Director of Air India, highlighted the partnership as a significant milestone in the airline's journey towards becoming a world-class carrier. He emphasized that MedAire's expertise will meet the requirements of Air India's expanding operations, enhancing customer care and operational excellence.

Peter Tuggey, Managing Director of Europe, Middle East and Asia at MedAire, praised Air India's proactive approach to safety and commitment to passenger well-being. He expressed confidence that the partnership will create an exceptional travel experience, boosting confidence and comfort for passengers and crew on every Air India journey.

The collaboration includes the use of MedAire's in-flight app, MedLink, which guides crew members through complex medical scenarios during emergencies. This ensures effective crisis management until the aircraft reaches its destination, providing passengers with the best possible care.

Henry Donohoe, SVP of Safety, Security & Quality at Air India, highlighted the benefits of MedLink in helping crew members handle crises effectively. He emphasized the seamless transmission of diagnostic information through the app to MedAire experts for real-time advice.

Bill Dolny, CEO of MedAire, expressed excitement about the partnership, citing it as a significant milestone for both organizations and the aviation industry in India. He emphasized the shared dedication to setting new standards in in-flight healthcare.

Looking ahead, the collaboration aims to assess passengers' health conditions at the airport before their flights if required, preventing in-flight medical events and reducing the risks associated with unplanned landings.
