Union Home Minister Amit Shah held discussions with U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor in New Delhi, focusing on ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in key security areas.
According to officials, the talks covered subjects such as counter-terrorism, combating drug trafficking, border security and coordination against organised criminal networks. Both sides also reviewed the broader framework of the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
Shah described the meeting as a detailed and constructive exchange, reiterating India's commitment to deepening ties with the United States under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a statement shared after the meeting, the Home Minister said India remains committed to ensuring that the bilateral relationship continues to deliver tangible benefits for the people of both nations.
Ambassador Sergio Gor also characterised the discussions as productive and positive, indicating that both countries are keen to expand collaboration on security-related challenges.
The meeting comes shortly after Prime Minister Modi's interactions with U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 summit, where issues relating to trade and maritime concerns were also discussed.
Officials clarified that recent online speculation linking the meeting to arrests or NGO funding matters was unfounded, and no such issues were part of the discussions.
Analysts view the engagement as another indication of the growing strategic alignment between India and the United States, particularly in areas involving security, intelligence-sharing and law-enforcement cooperation.
