Union Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking at the launch of the BJP's election manifesto ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, declared that Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, is now a part of history and will never return. "I want to make it clear to the whole country that Article 370 has become history and will never make a comeback," Shah stated.
Highlighting the BJP's accomplishments over the past decade, Shah emphasized that the period between 2014 and 2024 will be recorded in India's history, particularly in relation to Jammu and Kashmir, as a transformative era. He announced plans for a new tourist hub near Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir, creating 500,000 jobs in the region.
The BJP's manifesto also includes the establishment of new tourist centers in Jammu and pledges to support displaced communities, including Kashmiri Pandits. "We will launch the Tika Lal Taploo Visthapit Samaj Puranvas Yojana (TLTVPY) to ensure the safe return and rehabilitation of the Kashmiri Pandit community," the manifesto outlined.
Shah assured that the BJP remains committed to eradicating terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, adding that a white paper will be issued to identify and hold accountable those responsible for the rise of terrorism in the region. He praised the transformation of the union territory from "maximum terrorism to maximum tourism" during the last decade, crediting the BJP for dismantling the terror ecosystem in the valley.
Criticizing the opposition, Shah accused other political parties of engaging in appeasement politics, which he claimed fueled separatism. He expressed shock over the National Conference's manifesto and criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for supporting it, urging him to clarify his position.
The upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be the first since the abrogation of Article 370. Elections will take place in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with results set to be announced on October 8.
