Dairy giant Amul has responded to a customer in Noida who claimed to have found a centipede inside an ice cream tub purchased through an instant delivery app, urging her to return the product for a thorough investigation.

The incident surfaced when Deepa Devi, the customer, shared a photo on social media on June 15, revealing the insect in the Amul ice cream tub. She called on food safety authorities to take action in response.

In a statement, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets products under the Amul brand, expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to the customer.

"We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to her because of this incident," Amul stated.

The company confirmed that they have been in contact with Devi and requested the ice cream tub for investigation purposes. Amul emphasized the importance of retrieving the complaint pack to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the matter, which involves pack and supply chain integrity.

Amul reassured customers about the high quality of its ice cream, highlighting their automated plants that undergo rigorous quality checks. They also extended an invitation to Devi to visit one of their plants to witness the production process firsthand.

In response to the incident, food safety officials in Noida have launched an investigation and collected samples of Amul ice cream from the store of the instant delivery company where Devi made the purchase.

Amul pledged to conduct a thorough investigation once they receive the ice cream tub from Devi and promised to update customers on their findings.
