Businessman Anil Ambani has withdrawn his petition from the Bombay High Court, in which he had sought directions for the Income Tax Department to issue an order regarding a pending tax assessment for the financial year 2022-23.

Ambani's legal team had earlier moved a praecipe before a bench of Justices M.S. Sonak and Jitendra Jain on March 27, requesting an urgent hearing. The plea challenged a show-cause notice issued by the Income Tax Department on April 12, 2022. However, the court criticized the delay in approaching the judiciary, remarking that an artificial urgency had been created, as the notice had been issued more than a year ago. The bench dismissed the praecipe and imposed a cost of ₹25,000, directing the amount to be paid to Tata Memorial Hospital.

On April 2, senior advocate Rafiq Dada, representing Ambani, informed the court that the Income Tax Department had issued an order later in the evening on March 27, following the plea submission. Given this development, the legal team sought permission to withdraw the petition, stating that they would now evaluate whether to challenge the order before the Income Tax Tribunal or approach the High Court again.

The court permitted the withdrawal while allowing Ambani to seek legal recourse in the future if required. It was also confirmed that the ₹25,000 cost imposed earlier had been duly paid.
