Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail on Friday evening following the granting of bail in a corruption case linked to the excise policy. Surrounded by party supporters and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, Kejriwal addressed the crowd, expressing increased morale and strength.
Release and Reception: Arvind Kejriwal walked out of Tihar Jail under heavy rain, accompanied by his wife Sunita and senior AAP members including Manish Sisodia, Atishi, Sanjay Singh, and Bhagwant Mann. The scene was marked by cheers from party workers who greeted him with chants of "Jail Ke Tale Toot Gaye, Kejriwalji Chhoot Gaye."
Address to Supporters: Standing through the sunroof of a car, Kejriwal thanked his supporters for their perseverance and expressed that his morale had been significantly boosted by the experience. He emphasized his dedication to the country and claimed that his struggles had only strengthened his resolve. "My strength has increased 100 times," Kejriwal declared, attributing his resilience to his honesty and divine support.
Court's Conditions: The court granted bail but imposed conditions barring Kejriwal from visiting the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) or signing official documents. This bail follows his earlier interim release on May 10 for election campaigning. Kejriwal had been in custody since June 2 after surrendering following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate.
Political Reactions: The BJP expressed dissatisfaction with the bail decision, calling for Kejriwal’s resignation due to the ongoing accusations in the liquor policy case. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticized Kejriwal as "outright dishonest" and demanded his resignation.
In contrast, AAP leaders defended Kejriwal, accusing the BJP of a smear campaign and calling for an apology from the ruling party. Manish Sisodia asserted that the Supreme Court's bail decision also served as a reprimand to the BJP-led Centre, urging them to cease their alleged "dictatorship."
The release of Kejriwal has intensified the political discourse surrounding the excise policy case and highlighted the ongoing tensions between AAP and the BJP.
