Joe Biden took the stage on Friday with renewed energy, addressing supporters in North Carolina after a challenging debate performance against Donald Trump. Biden, acknowledging his age and slower pace, firmly stated, "I don't walk as easy as I used to. I don't speak as smoothly as I used to. I don't debate as well as I used to. But I know how to tell the truth. I know how to do this job."

His appearance came at a critical time, with some Democrats expressing concern about his ability to lead the ticket in the upcoming election. Biden's performance during the debate raised doubts as he struggled with his words and appeared to lose his train of thought, reinforcing worries about his capability to serve another term.

In contrast to his debate showing, Biden's rally was filled with the fiery rhetoric his supporters had hoped for. He directly challenged Trump, accusing him of setting a new record for lies in a single debate and portraying him as a significant threat to American democracy.

Trump, meanwhile, continued his campaign with a rally in Virginia, focusing on Biden's competence rather than his age. "It's not his age, it's his competence," Trump declared, questioning whether America could endure another four years of Biden's leadership.

Despite the concerns, no senior Democratic figures have publicly called for Biden to step down. California Governor Gavin Newsom, considered a potential alternative, expressed unwavering support for Biden, saying, "I will never turn my back on President Biden."

However, The New York Times editorial board argued that Biden should not seek re-election, describing his campaign as a "reckless gamble." They suggested that the most significant service Biden could offer would be to step aside.

As the political drama unfolded, Trump's allies presented a united front, with House Speaker Mike Johnson asserting that Trump was the only candidate qualified to be the next president. The next debate is set for September 10, offering Biden another chance to solidify his position.
