Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a special 'NAMO 1' jersey from BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah following India's T20 World Cup triumph
04-07-2024On Thursday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah presented a unique 'NAMO 1' jersey to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence. The BCCI shared a photo on social media of the jersey presentation, captioned with gratitude for PM Modi's inspiring words and support to the Indian cricket team.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi engaged with the World Cup-winning team, including head coach Rahul Dravid and several players, during a special meeting in New Delhi.
The victorious T20 World Cup team arrived in the capital to an enthusiastic reception from fans eager to see their heroes and the trophy. During their meeting with the Prime Minister, the team wore a special jersey adorned with two stars over the BCCI emblem, symbolizing their two T20 World Cup victories.
India broke a 13-year ICC World Cup trophy drought by defeating South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final. Virat Kohli's 76 helped India set a target of 176/7, while Hardik Pandya (3/20) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/18) restricted South Africa to 169/8. Bumrah, who took 15 wickets in the tournament at an impressive economy rate of 4.17, was named 'Player of the Tournament'.
The team, along with support staff, families, and media, were stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, a category four storm that caused the closure of Grantley Adams International Airport for three days. A special flight, organized by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, departed on July 2 and arrived in Delhi at around 6:00 AM on Thursday.
Upon arrival, Team India headed to the ITC Maurya hotel before their meeting with Prime Minister Modi. At the hotel, a special cake featuring the T20 World Cup trophy and pictures of the Indian stars was cut to celebrate the victory. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya were among those who participated in the cake-cutting ceremony.
