In a disturbing case reported from Anjananagar in Bengaluru on Tuesday afternoon, a young man was allegedly restrained and burned to death by a woman he was romantically involved with. Authorities suspect the act was carefully planned.
The victim, identified as Kiran, had visited the woman’s house around 2 pm when no other family members were present. According to investigators, the accused — Prema, also 27 — allegedly told him she wanted to surprise him with a dramatic “Western-style” proposal. She then reportedly tied his hands and legs with a rope and covered his eyes, claiming it was part of the surprise.
When Kiran questioned the restraints, she allegedly reassured him. Police say she then poured kerosene over him and set him on fire. He succumbed to severe burn injuries at the scene.
Officers suspect prior planning, pointing out that fuel had allegedly been arranged beforehand. They are also probing claims that the accused may have recorded the incident on her phone.
Relationship Under Scanner
Both individuals were employed at a Vi store near Bashyam Circle in Rajajinagar. What began as a professional acquaintance reportedly developed into a personal relationship. Investigators believe tensions may have surfaced recently, with indications that the woman was upset over feeling ignored.
On the day of the incident, Kiran had reportedly gone to meet her in connection with work related to a new Vi connection near Nelamangala. The two later went to her residence in the Gadde Khan area, where the alleged crime took place.
Investigation Ongoing
Prema has been taken into custody and is being questioned. Senior officials, including ACP Ashok and Inspector Bhaskar, visited the location.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) DL Nagesh confirmed that a murder case has been registered and a detailed probe is underway. Authorities are examining the motive, timeline, and extent of preparation involved in the incident.
