A new cooperative ride-hailing platform, Bharat Taxi, has officially been introduced in Delhi-NCR following its formal launch at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. The inauguration was led by Union Minister Amit Shah, who described the initiative as a step toward giving drivers financial ownership, respect, and long-term security.

To mark the occasion, a rally involving taxi drivers and customers was held, symbolising the service’s community-driven approach.

The Bharat Taxi mobile app, which had earlier been operating in a trial phase in the region, is now open to all users. The company has also announced plans to roll out its services in additional states and cities in the near future.

How Bharat Taxi Works

Positioned as an alternative to private cab companies such as Uber and Ola, Bharat Taxi follows a no-commission model, allowing drivers to keep the full fare collected from passengers. The platform aims to reduce financial pressure on drivers, who often lose a large portion of earnings to aggregator commissions.

According to CEO Vivek Pandey, the service currently does not charge drivers any registration or platform fee. However, a nominal daily charge — estimated between ₹25 and ₹30 — may be introduced later, which is expected to remain significantly lower than the commissions imposed by private competitors.

Passenger Benefits and Pricing Policy

Bharat Taxi claims it will offer lower and more predictable fares, with no surge pricing during peak hours. Unlike traditional ride-hailing platforms that increase prices based on demand, Bharat Taxi plans to maintain fixed and transparent rates for riders.

Ownership, Loans, and Safety Features

Although the platform is supported by the Ministry of Cooperation, it is not a government-owned venture. It is operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, with backing from major cooperative institutions, including Amul.

The service also intends to help drivers secure loans to purchase their own vehicles, potentially creating more self-employment opportunities. For safety, Bharat Taxi has partnered with Delhi and Gujarat Police and will offer features such as live ride tracking, verified driver profiles, multilingual app support, and round-the-clock customer assistance. Future plans also include integration with metro services to improve urban mobility.
