Biden Pledges Peaceful Transition of Power After Election Loss to Trump
Outgoing President Joe Biden promises a smooth handover of power to President-elect Donald Trump, reaffirming commitment to democracy and honoring the Constitution
07-11-2024In his first public comments after losing the presidential race to Donald Trump, President Joe Biden pledged to ensure a smooth and peaceful transition of power on January 20, 2025. He expressed his commitment to the democratic process, emphasizing that the will of the people always prevails.
Biden, who had withdrawn from the 2024 race in July due to concerns over his health and age, congratulated Vice President Kamala Harris for her hard-fought campaign. Despite the defeat, he commended her and her team for their dedication and efforts, stating, "She gave her whole heart and effort, and she and her entire team should be proud."
Speaking of his conversation with President-elect Trump, Biden confirmed that he assured Trump of his administration's full cooperation in ensuring a peaceful transfer of power. He further expressed his commitment to honoring the Constitution and fulfilling his duties as president during the transition process.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the Democratic Party in this loss, Biden reassured his supporters, saying, "I know it's a difficult time. You're hurting. I hear you and I see you." However, he reminded them of the accomplishments achieved during his presidency, calling it a historic period not due to his leadership alone, but because of the collective efforts of his team.
Biden concluded by reiterating the importance of democracy, stating, "Setbacks are inevitable, but giving up is unforgivable. On January 20, we will have a peaceful transfer of power, as is the American tradition."
