BJP and Allies Dominate Maharashtra Legislative Council Election, Securing 9 out of 11 Seats

The biennial election to 11 council seats in Maharashtra concludes with the ruling Mahayuti securing 9 out of 11 seats, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi wins 2 seats

In Maharashtra, the results for the biennial election to 11 council seats have been announced, with the ruling Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, and NCP led by Ajit Pawar, securing 9 out of the 11 seats they contested. From the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Milind Narvekar, a close aide to Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, and Congress candidate Pradnya Satav emerged victorious.

The voting took place at the Vidhan Bhavan complex in south Mumbai amidst heavy rains, with a total of 12 candidates in the fray. The electoral college comprised 274 members of the Legislative Assembly. BJP candidates such as Pankaja Munde, Parinay Phuke, Amit Gorkhe, Yogesh Tilekar, and Sadabhav Khot secured victories, with Pankaja Munde, Parinay Phuke, and Yogesh Tilekar each securing 26 votes. Two candidates from the NCP, Rajesh Vitekar and Shivajirao Garje, along with Shiv Sena leader Bhavana Gawli, also won their respective seats.

The election was held to fill 11 seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, as the term of 11 members is set to expire on July 27.
