A 17-year-old digital content creator from Pakistan was shot and killed at her home in Islamabad on Monday, with investigators exploring whether the incident was an act of honour-based violence.

The victim, identified as Sana Yousaf, was a TikTok personality from Upper Chitral who had gained a large following on Instagram—reportedly close to 500,000 followers. Pakistani news outlet Samaa TV reported that she was shot at close range by someone believed to be a relative.

The fatal attack occurred at her residence in Sector G-13 of the capital. Media reports citing law enforcement officials suggest that Sana had a brief exchange with the suspect outside her home before the person entered and opened fire. “The attacker went inside, fired multiple shots, and then fled,” an officer told reporters.

Sana was struck twice at close range and died immediately. Her remains were taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for further examination.

Though no arrests have been made, police are examining several possibilities, including that the killing was motivated by so-called honour concerns—a practice in which family members resort to violence over perceived reputational harm.

Samaa TV quoted police sources as saying that the gunman may have been a guest at her home and left the scene immediately after the shooting. A search is underway to locate and apprehend the suspect.

Known for her engaging TikTok videos, Sana often used her platform to celebrate Chitrali culture and raise awareness about women’s rights and education. Her content highlighted traditional values and social issues, and she was the daughter of a known social activist.

Her death has reignited concerns about rising violence against women in Pakistan who gain visibility on social media. Earlier this year, 15-year-old Hira, another TikTok user, was shot and killed in Quetta by her own father and uncle after refusing to quit the app. Both men were later arrested and admitted to the crime.
