BJP Celebrates Haryana Victory with a Cheeky Jalebi Delivery to Rahul Gandhi
Following its third consecutive win in Haryana, the BJP took a playful jab at Congress by sending a jalebi order to Rahul Gandhi's address
10-10-2024As the BJP celebrated its third consecutive victory in Haryana, it found time to take a playful jab at the Congress, and this time, the taunt came with a sugary twist—literally.
The Haryana BJP ordered 1 kilogram of jalebi, priced at around ₹609 including taxes, from the Bikanervala store in Delhi’s Connaught Place. The sweet treat was sent to 24 Akbar Road, the Congress headquarters in New Delhi. In a cheeky move, the recipient name was listed as "Jalebi for Rahul Gandhi."
Adding to the fun, the order was placed as cash on delivery. The Haryana BJP shared the details of this gesture on Twitter, writing, “On behalf of all the workers of Bhartiya Janata Party Haryana, Jalebi has been sent to Rahul Gandhi’s home,” along with a screenshot of the order.
Jalebi was not a random choice for the occasion. On October 8, the day of the election results, as it became clear that the BJP was on track for another win in Haryana, the word "jalebi" began trending on social media.
The story behind this goes back to an earlier campaign stop, where Rahul Gandhi, after sampling jalebi from a local shop in Guhana, Haryana, suggested that it should be produced in factories at an industrial scale to make it widely available across India and globally. The BJP, however, found this comment amusing and trolled Gandhi, remarking that “jalebi factories do not exist.”
In the wake of the election victory, the BJP didn’t miss the opportunity to savor its success with the very dessert that had sparked the joke. Rajasthan Chief Minister and BJP leader Bhajanlal Sharma even joined in the fun by trying his hand at making jalebis himself.
The BJP’s playful jalebi delivery was a lighthearted reminder of its victory and a continuation of the humorous political exchange that emerged during the campaign.
