The BJP on Sunday demanded legal action against senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for allegedly using an offensive term to describe Madhya Pradesh BJP chief VD Sharma. A delegation, led by Bhopal BJP president Sumit Pachauri, approached the local crime branch officials, urging them to register an FIR against Singh for using the term "napunsakta" (meaning impotence or lack of masculinity).
Pachauri accused Singh of intentionally using derogatory language to defame Sharma, who is also the Lok Sabha MP from Khajuraho. He claimed that the Congress leader's comments were intended to incite their supporters and disrupt peace during the ongoing Ganeshotsav celebrations. The BJP delegation sought action under sections 356, 356(1), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Singh's controversial remarks were made during a press conference on Saturday, where he expressed disappointment with Sharma, stating, "Despite having a triple-engine government at the Centre, state, and local levels, if he calls me an associate of terrorists but takes no action against me, I'm disappointed at his napunsakta."
In response, Sharma criticized Singh, accusing him of not only supporting terrorists but also attempting to undermine the rights of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes through appeasement politics. In a media statement, Sharma condemned Singh's language, calling it unacceptable. He further challenged Singh's masculinity, asserting that while he would not stoop to using derogatory terms, Singh’s behavior was beneath dignity.
The war of words between the two leaders has intensified as the political climate in Madhya Pradesh heats up ahead of upcoming elections.
