The BJP on Monday distanced itself from comments made by MP Kangana Ranaut regarding the farmers' protest, clarifying that her statements do not represent the party's position. The party urged Ranaut to avoid making such remarks in the future, emphasizing that she is not authorized to speak on policy matters on behalf of the BJP.
The controversy arose after the actor-turned-politician claimed that the farmers' protest could have spiraled into a Bangladesh-like crisis if not for the decisive actions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a video posted on her X account, Ranaut made sensational allegations, stating that "bodies were seen hanging" and "rapes were taking place" during the protests. She further suggested that foreign powers and vested interests were behind the prolonged unrest, despite the government’s repeal of the contentious farm laws.
Her comments triggered a backlash, particularly from the BJP's Punjab unit, which publicly rebuked her for making inflammatory statements. Punjab BJP leader Harjit Garewal criticized Ranaut's remarks, stressing that it is not her role to speak on sensitive issues such as farmers' protests.
The BJP's official statement emphasized that Ranaut’s views were personal and did not reflect the party's stance, reaffirming the party's support for farmers and disapproving of divisive rhetoric.
