Two days after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge raised concerns about objectionable remarks made by BJP leaders against Rahul Gandhi, BJP President JP Nadda has responded with a detailed letter to Kharge. Nadda's letter highlights derogatory terms previously used by Congress leaders against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In his letter, Nadda reminded Kharge of past instances where Congress leaders had used derogatory language against Modi. He pointed out that Sonia Gandhi had referred to Modi as "maut ka saudagar" (merchant of death), a term Congress had once glorified. Nadda also listed other insults directed at the Prime Minister, including "snake," "scorpion," "demon," "pickpocket," and "coward," and criticized Congress for allegedly ignoring political decorum.
Nadda accused Rahul Gandhi of resorting to divisive politics based on reservation and caste, noting Gandhi's recent remarks in the US about the need for fairness in India before reconsidering reservation policies. Nadda claimed that Gandhi’s statements reveal a prejudice against reservations, a stance that BJP has seized upon to criticize the Congress leader.
Kharge's earlier letter to Prime Minister Modi had highlighted a series of violent and indecent remarks made by BJP leaders against Rahul Gandhi, including threats and insults from Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu, Shiv Sena leaders, and Delhi BJP leader Tarwinder Singh Marwah. Kharge expressed concern over the impact of such rhetoric on Indian democracy and urged the Prime Minister to ensure decorum and legal action against such remarks.
Nadda, in his response, asserted that the Congress has historically undermined Indian democracy, citing actions like the imposition of the Emergency, support for triple talaq, and the defamation of constitutional institutions.
