In a landmark initiative to improve urban emergency medical services, Blinkit has rolled out a rapid-response ambulance service in Gurugram, promising to reach patients within 10 minutes. The service, launched on January 2, was announced by Albinder Dhindsa, Blinkit’s CEO and co-founder.
“Ambulance in 10 minutes. We are taking our first step towards addressing the challenge of providing quick and dependable ambulance services in cities. Starting today, the first five ambulances will operate in Gurugram. As we expand, users will soon be able to book a Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance directly through the Blinkit app,” Dhindsa shared in a statement.
The ambulances are equipped with essential life-saving tools, including oxygen cylinders, Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), stretchers, monitors, suction machines, and emergency medications. Each vehicle is staffed by a trained paramedic, an assistant, and a skilled driver to ensure immediate and effective care.
Blinkit’s ambulance service operates on a not-for-profit model, keeping affordability at its core. Plans are underway to expand the initiative to major cities across India over the next two years.
The effort has garnered praise from industry leaders, including Vijay Shekhar Sharma, founder of Paytm, and Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing.
Dhindsa also stressed the importance of public cooperation in emergencies, urging citizens to give way to ambulances on the road. “Timely access to medical care can save lives,” he highlighted.
This initiative marks a significant step in addressing the gaps in urban emergency medical services, setting a new benchmark for quick and efficient response times.
