The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted Bollywood actor Ameesha Patel additional time to respond to a show cause notice related to her tax payments. The court extended the deadline for Patel to submit her reply to the notice, originally issued on December 29, 2020, until September 23, 2024.

Patel had initially challenged the notice, arguing that she was not given a proper hearing before it was issued. However, after examining the case, a bench comprising Justices KR Shriram and Jitendra Jain ruled that the notice followed appropriate legal procedures.

Advocate Rajesh Bhosale, representing Patel, requested the court’s permission to withdraw the petition and respond directly to the notice. The court approved this request and set the new deadline for Patel’s response, considering the upcoming Ganesh Festival.

The court also instructed the Deputy or Assistant Commissioner of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Division VIII to conclude the matter by November 30, 2024. It was further mandated that any decision taken should be a well-reasoned order reflecting Patel’s submissions. Additionally, the Commissioner was directed to offer Patel a personal hearing, with notice of the hearing to be provided at least five working days in advance to allow her sufficient time to prepare.
