Mumbai Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder of veteran NCP leader Baba Siddique, who was shot dead near his son's office in Bandra, Mumbai. Among those in custody is Dharmaraj Kashyap, whose claim of being a minor was dismissed following a bone ossification test that confirmed he is an adult. Kashyap, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was produced before the court where his lawyer initially argued that he was underage.
Baba Siddique, 66, was killed by three assailants on Saturday night outside the office of his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique, in the Kher Nagar area of Bandra. The politician was cremated with full state honors the following day. Two of the three shooters have been apprehended, including Gurmel Baljit Singh, 23, from Haryana, while the third, Shiv Kumar, is still at large.
According to sources, the arrested suspects claimed to be working for notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently incarcerated at Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat. Bishnoi's name has also surfaced in past criminal activities, including a shooting incident outside the Mumbai home of Bollywood actor Salman Khan, a close friend of Siddique.
The suspects reportedly conducted months of surveillance on Siddique's home and office before carrying out the hit. Police have revealed that the assassins were each paid ₹50,000 in advance, and weapons were provided to them just days before the murder.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assured the public that the third accused will be apprehended soon, stating, "We will not spare anyone, whether it's the Bishnoi gang or any other underworld group."
In a related development, Mumbai Police's crime branch arrested Pravin Lonkar, 28, from Pune on Sunday. Lonkar is accused of being a key conspirator in the murder, and police are currently searching for his brother, Shubham Lonkar. The two brothers are believed to have orchestrated the plot and recruited Kashyap and Kumar Gautam for the assassination.
Investigations are ongoing, and police are working to capture the remaining suspects involved in the case.
