The Budget Session of Parliament is set to commence today with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Following her speech, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey 2024-25 in both Houses.

Prepared under the guidance of Chief Economic Adviser V. Anantha Nageswaran, the Economic Survey will provide an official review of the country’s economic performance over the past year. It will also highlight key challenges and outline potential reforms and strategies for future growth.

The government has listed 16 Bills for consideration during the session, including the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. Other significant bills include amendments to banking laws, railway regulations, disaster management policies, and oilfield regulations, as well as legislation concerning aircraft object protection and immigration policies.

On Saturday, Finance Minister Sitharaman will present the first full Budget of the Modi 3.0 government, with expectations of possible revisions to income tax slabs.

The session will be held in two parts: the first phase will run until February 13, after which Parliament will take a recess to review the Budget proposals. The second phase will resume on March 10 and conclude on April 4, comprising a total of 27 sittings.

For the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address, the Lok Sabha has provisionally allocated two days (February 3-4), while the Rajya Sabha has set aside three days for deliberations.
