The Indian government has announced an expansion of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), committing to assist in the construction of an additional 3 crore rural and urban houses. This decision was made during the latest Cabinet meeting to address the growing housing needs of eligible families.
Since its inception in the 2015-16 period, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has aimed to provide housing with essential amenities to both rural and urban households. Over the past decade, the program has successfully completed 4.21 crore houses for impoverished families across India.
Houses built under PMAY come equipped with various basic amenities such as household toilets, LPG connections, electricity, and functional household tap connections. These are facilitated through partnerships with other Central and State Government schemes.
The latest Cabinet decision underscores the government's continued commitment to ensuring adequate housing for all, responding to the increased number of families qualifying for assistance.
