Investigators have released a CCTV image of the suspect in the rape and murder case involving a junior doctor at a Kolkata hospital. The footage, which captures the suspect entering the hospital shortly after midnight, also shows a Bluetooth earphone around his neck. Police had discovered a similar Bluetooth earphone at the crime scene in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the victim's body was found.
The CCTV footage indicates that Sanjay Roy entered the hospital at 1:03 am. During subsequent interrogation, Roy reportedly confessed to the crime after being confronted with the CCTV evidence.
Prior to arriving at the hospital, Roy had visited two brothels in Kolkata's Sonagachi area on the night of August 8. After consuming alcohol, he moved between the brothels before heading to the hospital. The CCTV shows him entering and leaving the seminar hall, where the junior doctor had been sleeping.
The case has led to widespread protests across India, with significant demonstrations occurring in Kolkata.
In related developments, a special court in Kolkata has authorized a polygraph test for Sanjay Roy, and also granted permission for lie-detection tests on Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the medical college, and four other doctors who were on duty at the hospital during the critical hours of August 8-9.
