A court in Mumbai on Saturday instructed the city police to investigate a criminal complaint filed against film and television producer Ekta Kapoor over allegations of insulting Indian soldiers in a web series.

The magistrate's court in Bandra requested a detailed report from the police by May 9, under Section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. This section allows the magistrate to either personally investigate a complaint or delegate the inquiry to the police.

The complaint was lodged by YouTuber Vikas Pathak, popularly known as 'Hindustani Bhau.' It also named Kapoor’s streaming platform Alt Balaji, along with her parents, Shobha and Jeetendra Kapoor, as co-accused.

Filed through lawyer Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, the complaint alleged that an episode in a web series on Alt Balaji portrayed a military officer involved in an inappropriate sexual act.

According to Pathak, he discovered the controversial episode in May 2020. The complaint accused the producers of tarnishing the honor and pride of the nation by depicting the Indian Army uniform, bearing the national emblem, in an objectionable scene.

The court has sought the police's findings on the matter before deciding the next course of action.
