A gold-plated silver crown, gifted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Jeshoreshwari Temple in Satkhira, Bangladesh, has been reported stolen. According to The Daily Star, the theft occurred on Thursday afternoon, shortly after the temple priest concluded the day’s worship. The temple’s cleaning staff discovered that the crown had been removed from the deity’s head.
The crown, presented by PM Modi during his March 2021 visit to Bangladesh, holds significant cultural and religious importance. Jeshoreshwari Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas revered in Hindu mythology, is believed to have been built in the 12th century and later renovated by notable figures such as Lakshman Sen and Raja Pratapaditya.
Jyoti Chattopadhyay, a member of the family responsible for the temple’s upkeep, confirmed the crown’s theft and mentioned its silver base with a gold-plated finish.
During his visit, PM Modi had also announced plans for a multipurpose community hall at the temple to serve the local community and provide shelter during natural disasters.
