DCP Noida Central Removed Over Delays in Extortion Case Action
The Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Commissionerate has replaced DCP Noida Central Sunita with Shakti Mohan Avasthy following allegations of inaction in an extortion case
08-08-2024In a notable administrative change, the Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Commissionerate has removed Sunita from her position as DCP Noida Central, appointing Shakti Mohan Avasthy as her replacement. This decision came after allegations that DCP Sunita delayed taking action on an extortion incident for two days. Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh initiated these key transfers.
The case in question involves trainee sub-inspector Amit Mishra and his associates, Abhinav and Ashish, who allegedly extorted money from a cab driver in the Thana Bisrakh area. Mishra and his associates have been charged under sections 309 and 352 of the BNS, and the vehicles used, a Scorpio and a Hyundai Venue, have been seized. Amit Mishra has been dismissed from service and arrested under Rule 8(2)(b) of the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Police Officers Punishment and Appeal Rules, 1991. The search for Abhinav and Ashish is ongoing.
The cab driver's complaint was brought to the Police Commissioner's Office on the 5th. ACP 2 Bisrakh was tasked with investigating the case, confirming the incident after examination. DCP Sunita's failure to act promptly led to her removal. Shakti Mohan Avasthy has taken over as the new DCP Noida Central. In addition, SHO Bisrakh, Chowki Incharge Gaur City-1, Sub Inspector Ramesh Chandra, and Sub Inspector Mohit have been suspended.
As part of the changes, Inspector Manoj Kumar Singh, formerly in charge of Surajpur police station, is now the incharge of Bisrakh police station. Inspector Vinod Kumar, previously the incharge of Ecotech 3 police station, has been appointed in charge of Surajpur police station, while Inspector Anil Pandey takes over Ecotech 3.
These transfers follow the suspension of the previous Bisrakh SHO for involvement in extorting cab drivers. Manoj Kumar is now responsible for Greater Noida West. These immediate changes aim to improve law and order and enhance administrative efficiency in the region. The Police Commissionerate believes these adjustments will ensure better governance and public safety.
DCP Shakti Mohan Avasthy informed the Daily Guardian that the investigation is ongoing and the department is actively working on the case. He confirmed that he has assumed the role of DCP Noida Central, succeeding Sunita.
