Death Toll Rises to Eight in Lucknow Building Collapse

The death toll from the Lucknow building collapse has reached eight, with 28 others injured as rescue operations continue

The death toll from the building collapse in Lucknow has risen to eight, with rescuers recovering three additional bodies from the rubble. The incident occurred on Saturday evening (September 7) when a three-story building, which housed godowns and a motor workshop, collapsed in the Transport Nagar area. The collapse also crushed a truck parked nearby.

District officials reported that 28 people were injured in the incident. The victims have been identified as Raj Kishore, Rudra Yadav, Jagrup Singh Sahani, Jagroop Singh, Dheeraj Gupta, Pankaj Tiwari, Arun Sonkar, and Rakesh Lakhan Pal. The injured were taken to various hospitals, including Lok Bandhu Hospital, for treatment. The relief operation is ongoing, with efforts focused on ensuring that no one remains trapped in the debris.

Lucknow Police Commissioner Amrendra Kumar Sengar stated that local police, the district administration, NDRF, and SDRF promptly launched rescue operations. He assured that the operations would continue until all individuals are safely rescued.

A case has been filed against the building owner at the Sarojini Nagar police station under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following the collapse.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as tragic and heart-breaking. He directed officials to expedite relief and rescue efforts and ensure proper treatment for the injured. In his post on X, he prayed for the departed souls and the swift recovery of the injured.

Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh also extended his condolences to the families affected by the tragedy. He expressed his deepest sympathies and wished for the quick recovery of those injured, after receiving updates on the rescue operation from District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar.
